Digital Accessibility Sessions

To support campus-wide preparation for the new ADA Title II digital accessibility requirements, Coppin State University is offering ongoing Faculty/staff digital accessibility trainings throughout the semester.

These trainings are designed to support Faculty/staff in meeting their responsibilities related to digital accessibility and to document our collective progress toward compliance.

Why This Matters

Under the updated ADA Title II regulations, public universities are required to ensure that digital content and services are accessible. Participation in the trainings helps demonstrate good-faith effort, progress tracking, and institutional readiness.

More importantly, building accessibility into everyday work:

  • Reduces last-minute fixes and risk

  • Improves communication for everyone

  • Supports students, colleagues, and the public

How Participation Is Tracked

Attendance is recorded for all digital accessibility training sessions. Certificates are issued monthly based on participation.

Digital Accessibility Training Options

Coppin State University offers multiple training pathways to support Faculty and Staff learning, flexibility, and documentation. 

Customized Division Training

Divisions may request customized digital accessibility training tailored to their Faculty/staff’s specific workflows and responsibilities. These sessions may be offered as:

  • Individual or small-group sessions

  • A series of shorter 1-hour sessions

  • Two (2) 2-hour face-to-face sessions

  • One half-day, face-to-face workshop

Participants recieve Certificates of Completion upon completion of the training.

Monthly Live Trainings

Faculty/staff may attend live campus-wide digital accessibility training sessions. These trainings are virtual. 

Recordings + Verification

Faculty/Staff who are unable to attend live sessions may instead:

  • View recorded training sessions, and

  • Complete the associated assessment for each recording to verify participation.

Faculty/Staff who complete four (4) recorded trainings with assessments are also eligible to earn a Certificate of Completion.

This option ensures equitable access to training while supporting institutional documentation needs.

Option 4: Self-Paced Courses

Faculty/staff may complete a series of three self-paced digital accessibility courses, which build on one another from foundational concepts to practical application. This option allows everyone to learn at their own pace while gaining a structured understanding of accessibility expectations.

Fix-Your-Content Open Hours

In addition to training sessions, faculty/staff can register for Fix-Your-Content Open Hours, held Thursdays, for hands-on assistance with remediating specific documents or files.

  • When: Thursdays

  • Format: Virtual only

  • Audience: Staff/Faculty creating or managing digital content

  • Focus:

    • One-on-one support

    • Applying Staff Accessibility Toolkit resources

    • Fix / Replace / Remove decision support

These sessions are for guided support and problem-solving, not evaluation.

March 8, 2026 Managing Public-Facing & High-Visibility Content 

  • This hands-on training addresses best practices for managing public-facing and high-visibility digital content in alignment with ADA Title II regulations. 

  • Participants will learn how to identify, create, and remediate commonly used content to ensure it is accessible to all users.

Monday, March 23, 2026 Accessibility in Meetings, Trainings, and Events 

  • This session focuses on planning and delivering accessible meetings, trainings, and events in compliance with ADA Title II requirements. 

  • Staff will learn practical strategies for inclusive presentations, accessible materials, and effective accommodation planning.

 March 6, 2026 Fix / Replace / Remove: Faculty Decision-Making

  • This is a practical training that helps faculty evaluate digital course materials and decide when to remediate accessibility issues, adopt more accessible alternatives, or remove barriers altogether. 

  • Participants gain clear strategies for making efficient, compliant, and student-centered accessibility decisions.

  • Participants will learn practical strategies for creating accessible instructions, documents, media, and assessment formats aligned with ADA Title II and inclusive teaching practices.

  • This training helps staff integrate digital accessibility into everyday workflows to ensure documents, emails, forms, and shared content remain accessible over time. 

  • Participants will learn practical strategies for building accessibility into routine processes, supporting ADA Title II compliance and reducing the need for rework or remediation.

April 13, 2026 Documenting Accessibility Progress for Compliance 

  • This training guides staff on how to document digital accessibility efforts, decisions, and improvements to demonstrate good-faith progress toward ADA Title II compliance.

  •  Participants will learn practical methods for tracking remediation, training, and workflow changes in a consistent, audit-ready way.

April 20, 2026 Reflecting on Accessibility: What’s Working & What Needs Support 

  • This session provides staff with a structured opportunity to reflect on current digital accessibility practices, identify what is working well, and highlight areas where additional tools or support are needed. 

  • Participants will share experiences and help inform next steps that strengthen workflows, collaboration, and ADA Title II readiness.

  • Participants will learn how to use the toolkit’s resources (e.g., course checklists, step-by-step guides, and UDL-informed planning tools) to build inclusive, compliant course content and streamline their accessibility work in everyday teaching practice.

  • This session helps faculty understand how to document accessibility decisions, course improvements, and inclusive teaching practices to demonstrate good-faith progress toward ADA Title II compliance.

  •  Participants will learn how to identify high-priority updates, apply accessibility best practices efficiently, and enter the next term with courses that are more inclusive, organized, and ADA Title II–ready.
